CALEDONIAN SOCIETY OF SHEFFIELD – BURNS NIGHT 2012
This year the Caledonian Society of Sheffield decided to take a different approach to our Burns celebrations and, instead of the usual hotel venue, we decided to hold proceedings in St Andrew’s Church, Upper Hanover Street, Sheffield – a church which has strong links to the Society. The change of venue may have seemed a little risky but it turned out to be a resounding success with 107 people attending, and it certainly helped to keep costs down!

The food was supplied by the chef at the University Arms Pub and a fine job he made of it! We started with salmon mousse or melon, followed by Haggis, neeps & tatties and finished with Our Cow Molly Ice cream and cheese & biscuits. Everyone agreed that the meal was delicious.

We were blessed to have our friend and Past President Brian Ogilvie to give a very entertaining toast to The Immortal Memory. The Toast to the Lassies was given by Dr Neil Macaskill, with a most amusing reply given by his wife, Professor Anne Macaskill. During the evening we had some wonderful entertainment in the form of songs and poetry ably delivered by members of the Society. All the proceedings were enjoyed immensely by our guests of honour, The Lord Mayor of Sheffield and her Consort.
